Despite daily Russian shelling, businesses continue to operate in the Kherson community. Currently, more than 500 retail establishments and about 50 restaurants are open here.
This was reported by Yaroslav Shanko, head of the Kherson City Military Administration.
According to him, service-sector businesses and other establishments that provide residents with essential goods and services are also operating in the community.
At the same time, business owners face more than just security risks. Among the main challenges are logistical difficulties, power outages, and increased costs associated with maintaining autonomous operations.
Shanko noted that behind every store or establishment that continues to operate amid shelling are people who risk their own safety every day, preserve jobs, and sustain the community’s vital functions.
Earlier, Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, said that the population of Kherson drops to approximately 55,000 people in the winter. During the summer, about 65,000 people live in the city.
According to reports from the Main Department of Statistics in the Kherson region, as of early 2021, Kherson’s population stood at 283,649, and as of January 1, 2022, it was 279,131.
