Plans are in place to install 840 mobile shelters in Ukraine’s frontline communities. They will be placed near bus stops, roads, and schools to protect children.
This was announced by the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine
The initiative will benefit 56,000 children.
“Undoubtedly, the most pressing issue is the safety of children. Today, a school route in a frontline community must follow a completely different approach: there must be a well-planned safe space next to the bus stop, road, and school,” said Vitaliy Bezgin, Ukraine’s Minister of Communities, Territories, and Internally Displaced Persons
The total cost of the project is approximately 1.4 billion hryvnias. It will be implemented through the joint efforts of the state, regions, and communities. Regions farther from the front lines will contribute to funding the needs of frontline territories.
Previously, parents had demanded a shelter for the Children’s Creative Arts Academy in Mykolaiv. According to the parents’ committee, children currently have to walk about 300 meters to the nearest shelter, even though there is a nearby building that, in the parents’ opinion, could be converted into a shelter. The discussion regarding the facility at the Mykolaiv City Council session lasted nearly two hours. City council officials emphasized that the issue of establishing a shelter is still under consideration, and no decisions regarding funding or the acquisition of the premises have been made yet.
