Plans are in place to provide backup power to buildings in the Korabelny District of Mykolaiv

The municipal enterprise "Mykolaivoblteploenergo" and the nonprofit organization "Youth of Ukraine" signed a Memorandum of Cooperation, under which a project to provide backup power to individual heating stations will be implemented in the Korabelny District.

This was reported by the Mykolaiv City Council.

Under this project, by the start of the 2026–2027 heating season, 31 individual heating units in apartment buildings will be equipped with modern uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, which include inverters, rechargeable batteries, and necessary equipment. This will ensure that the heating stations can continue to operate during emergency or scheduled power outages.

The installation, commissioning, and subsequent maintenance of the equipment will be provided by OKP “Mykolaivoblteploenergo.”

Earlier, Odesa approved a 35-million-euro loan and grant for the modernization of heating networks. Of this amount, 10 million euros will be provided by the European Commission as a grant, and the city expects to receive another 25 million euros as a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The loan has a 13-year term with a three-year grace period; however, interest on the funds will accrue from the very beginning.

Officials emphasized that signing a loan agreement is not currently on the table. The city council is only set to approve the preparatory phase, which will allow the EBRD to hire consultants to conduct a technical audit and determine the final list of projects. Preliminary plans include upgrading heating networks, purchasing cogeneration equipment, and other measures to improve the reliability of the heating system.
