Reports were filed against two acting deputy mayors of Odesa for violating language laws. The reason was that the officials used a non-state language during work-related communication on the city council premises.

This was reported by Anna Nerush, a representative of the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language.

The violation of language legislation was captured on video. The footage shows the two acting deputy mayors entering the office of the head of one of the city council’s departments. They then engage in a work-related conversation—partly in a non-state language—with a department employee regarding the department head’s presence at the workplace.

Anna Nerush noted that the acting deputy mayors declined to provide explanations and did not appear for the hearing. Two reports were filed against them for violating the requirements of the legislation on the working language of government bodies.

As previously reported by Intent, in the Odesa region, reports were filed against deputies of two local councils for speaking Russian during plenary sessions. The violations were documented at the Vilkivka City Council and the Velykobuyalitska Village Council. A total of seven reports were filed. Two of them were based on the proceedings of a session of the Vilkivsk City Council in the Izmail District. Another five were based on the proceedings of a session of the Velykobuyalitsa Village Council in the Berezivka District.
