Kherson region plans to build a shelter for a lyceum for 700 people

In the village of Velyka Oleksandrivka in the Kherson region, the construction of an underground protective structure at the local lyceum is planned. The cost of the anti-radiation shelter, which will also serve as a space for children's education, creativity, and leisure, is estimated at more than UAH 200 million.
Information about this project was published on the DREAM platform in January this year.
The proposed building in Velyka Oleksandrivka will not only provide a high level of protection but will also function as a modern educational and cultural space. According to the technical documentation, the facility is designed for an autonomous stay of 720 people for 48 hours and meets the requirements of a P-6 radiation shelter. In peacetime, the underground space is planned to be used for studying, creativity, watching movies and holding short-term events, for which special halls, bathrooms, a cafeteria and a first-aid post will be equipped.
The project has already entered the active implementation phase: the preparation stage has been completed, and construction and installation works are underway. The facility will be equipped with autonomous energy sources to maintain life in case of emergencies. The total period of large-scale construction is estimated at 24 months.
Earlier, the Kherson Prosecutor's Office opened a criminal case over the abandoned or closed shelters. The security forces will check who is responsible for the fact that the shelters in the city are not ready for use during shelling.
The investigation was prompted by a statement from the Ombudsman of Ukraine. During the inspections, his team found that some of the shelters in Kherson were inaccessible to residents: the doors were locked and the conditions inside violated military law security requirements.
Currently, Kherson police are conducting a pre-trial investigation to establish all the circumstances and determine who is responsible for the fact that the shelters were not functioning properly.
