The Kherson community is currently home to about 75,000 people, of whom 4,500 are children. Approximately 63 thousand residents remain in Kherson.
According to Vgoru, this was announced during a press conference by the head of the Kherson City Military Administration Yaroslav Shanko.
According to him, the population is constantly changing, in particular due to the intensification of Russian shelling and the evacuation of people from dangerous areas.
Shanko noted that evacuations from the community are ongoing. At the same time, some residents refuse to leave even the so-called "red zones" where evacuation is mandatory.
"We cannot provide everyone with a separate apartment, but we can provide accommodation in temporary housing, for example, in collective centers," explained the head of the KHMMA.
There are separate support programs for families with children. According to the official, with the help of international donors, people are offered housing, especially in Kyiv region and other regions of Ukraine. However, many residents still refuse to leave the community.
In turn, in March 2026, the head of the Kherson Military District Administration, Oleksandr Prokudin, reported that about 135,000 people live in the government-controlled territory of Kherson region. According to him, approximately 15 thousand people left the region during the winter alone.
At the same time, local authorities are planning to increase the number of underground schools for children in the Kherson region.
In addition, the Kherson community is experiencing a critical shortage of staff in almost all areas, most notably in healthcare and utilities. Medical institutions are only half staffed, and the workload on doctors is constantly growing.
Earlier, Intent wrote that the invaders from Russia are forced to bring their doctors and secondary medical staff to the temporarily occupied territories of Kherson and other regions of Ukraine, because the locals do not work with the enemy and have mostly left the region.
