A 39-year-old resident of the Kherson region was sentenced to 10 years in prison for collaborating with the Russian occupiers. The man joined the “United Russia” party, participated in illegal elections in Chaplynka, and was appointed to a position in a local government body established by the invaders.
This was reported by the Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the investigation, in July 2023, the man voluntarily joined the Russian “United Russia” party. As early as September, he participated in illegal elections to the so-called “Council of Deputies of the Chaplynka Municipal District,” organized by the occupying authorities.
After receivinghis “mandate” as a deputy, the collaborator headed two standing committees of the pseudo-council at once—on architecture, urban planning, and land relations, as well as on public services and security.
In addition, according to the prosecutor’s office, the man actively interacted with local residents, attempting to promote the occupation administration and create the appearance of legitimacy for its activities.
The court found the 39-year-old man guilty of collaboration under Part 1 of Article 28 and Part 5 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced him to 10 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The defendant was also barred for 15 years from holding positions in state or local government bodies, as well as from engaging in activities related to the provision of public services.
The verdict was handed down in absentia under special judicial proceedings. The period for filing an appeal is currently ongoing.
