In Odessa, authorities have stepped up enforcement of electric scooter traffic along the Health Trail. On July 31, representatives from the Department of Transportation, the “SMEP” Municipal Enterprise, and the patrol police conducted a joint raid. Starting August 1, such inspections will be conducted weekly.

This was reported by the Odessa City Council.

During the inspection, violations of the ban on electric scooter traffic were detected. People were riding their own scooters because rental scooters have software restrictions that prevent them from traveling along the Health Trail.

Moving forward, enforcement will be stepped up along the entire length of the Health Trail—from the “Langeron” checkpoint to the “Fountain 16” checkpoint. In this area, pedestrians and cyclists are permitted, while electric scooters and other light personal electric vehicles are prohibited.

Previously, the Supreme Court officially recognized electric scooters as a source of increased danger and their riders as full-fledged road users.Akcent investigated how to operate such a vehicle now and what responsibilities apply to anyone who wants to take a breezy ride on an electric scooter.Attorney Oleksandr Rumyantsev provided expert commentary.

The expert noted that a scooter is considered a vehicle because it has a motor. That is why, by law, a scooter rider bears the same responsibility as the driver of any other vehicle. However, they are not required to obtain a license, and this is a problem, as ignorance of traffic rules is often the cause of accidents.
