How do you prepare the substrate before starting work?
The preparation stage involves creating a solid, clean, and dry surface free of dust or flaking. Mineral wool insulation is installed at temperatures between +5 and +25 °C on a substrate that is neither overheated by the sun nor excessively cold.
The main preparation steps include:
- mechanical cleaning of the substrate;
- removing loose sections of plaster or concrete spatter;
- treating porous materials with a deep-penetrating primer to even out absorption.
A thoroughly prepared surface is essential to ensure uniform adhesion of the adhesive mortar to the wall.

The technique for applying the adhesive mixture involves:
- applying the prepared adhesive mixture to the surface of the insulation boards using a notched trowel with 10×10 mm notches using the continuous method;
- pre-apply a thin layer of filler to the surface of the board to cover its fibrous structure and facilitate further work;
- evenly distribute the adhesive mixture over the surface of the mineral wool board, leaving a 10–15 mm margin from its edges;
- Place the board in position and press it down so that it forms a level surface with the boards already installed;
- Adhere the panels tightly, joining them together and avoiding vertical joints that line up;
- remove any excess adhesive mixture;
- Ensure that at least 60% of the thermal insulation board’s surface area is adhered to the substrate.
After 3 days, mechanically fasten the panels using dowels with thermal heads (5–6 per m²). Next, create a 3–5 mm thick reinforced base layer with embedded glass fiber mesh.
Thus, the installation of mineral wool insulation is a technically precise process in which each stage requires strict adherence to procedures. The use of specialized mixtures—KREISEL 230 OB’EKT and KREISEL 240 OB’EKT, combined with proper substrate preparation and correct reinforcement, guarantees maximum energy efficiency of the building and the facade’s durability for many years to come.
