During a session of the Mykolaiv City Council, deputies raised the issue of the problem of burying deceased city residents who have no relatives.
Deputy Andriy Yantar said that the regional bureau of forensic medical examination currently has 33 bodies of such people. According to him, they are accumulating, and with the onset of warm weather, the situation may become dangerous.
He also emphasized that the morgue is overloaded, because in addition to civilians, the bodies of military personnel are also being delivered there.
Yantar called on the city authorities to allocate additional funds for burials if the social protection department does not have sufficient funding. He also noted that at the beginning of the year the number of such bodies exceeded 100.
In response, Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych promised to resolve the issue in the near future.
"Give me time until the next plenary session. I think we will resolve this issue by the end of next week," the mayor said.
Earlier, Intent wrote that in Kherson region, the identification of those killed in the fighting continues. Some of the remains have not yet been identified.
A memorial in honor of the fallen soldiers will continue to be arranged at the Geologists Cemetery in Kherson. Another tender for more than UAH 3.2 million was won by private entrepreneur Vitaliy Kahalnyak, the same person who had previously received a contract for UAH 5.7 million from the city funeral service.
As a reminder, a search and evacuation team is operating in Mykolaiv Oblast, based on the regional department of the Territorial Defense Forces "South". As part of the humanitarian project of the Armed Forces of Ukraine "On the Shield," experts are searching for the bodies of fallen soldiers to return them to their families.
