Construction work in Voznesensk damaged a centuries-old oak tree with a diameter of 170 centimeters

In the city of Voznesensk, Mykolaiv Oblast, branches were cut from a centuries-old oak tree growing on a well-known avenue. Environmental protection inspectors documented the damage, and work near the trees was halted.
This was reported by the State Environmental Inspection of the Southwestern District.
A city resident notified the inspection agency that an oak tree with a diameter of 170 centimeters had been damaged. Experts determined that branches had been cut from one of the trees, and that work was being carried out directly on the avenue that could pose a threat to the mature trees.
Based on the facts of the tree damage and the stockpiling of construction waste, inspectors drew up reports of administrative offenses. The extent of the damage caused will be determined at a later date.
The site inspection was conducted by state environmental protection inspectors, members of the public, members of the Voznesensk City Council, and representatives of the Voznesensk City Council’s Department of Housing, Utilities, and Capital Construction.
Previously,record-breaking tree growth rates were recorded at the site of the Kakhovka Reservoir. During a July expedition, scientists from the environmental protection group documented the incredible pace of the area’s natural recovery. The largest young willow tree found is already 13 cm in diameter—and that’s in just three years.
