A Volkswagen car exploded on Universytetska Street in the center of Odesa late in the evening on May 23.

This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa region.

According to preliminary information from law enforcement, the explosion injured two people inside the vehicle. They were provided with the necessary medical care. Investigators have not yet qualified the incident.

In February, a Toyota car exploded in the morning on Akademika Korolyova Street in Odesa. A 56-year-old man was injured. He was hospitalized. Police operatives, investigators, forensic experts, and explosives experts are working at the scene. The legal qualification of the incident will be determined after all the circumstances are clarified. The Security Service of Ukraine has classified the car explosion in the Kyiv district of Odesa as a terrorist act and has already opened a criminal investigation.

On February 14, police investigators in Odesa opened proceedings over a death threat and illegal handling of weapons found in the car of a city businessman. The incident occurred on Pedagogichna Street. The businessman himself reported to the police about the explosives he found in his car. The police arrived at the scene and found a hand grenade fuse in the car's exhaust pipe.

On February 6, an explosion occurred in Odesa near a residential building on Akademika Korolyova Street. The driver of the car was killed. The Security Service, together with the National Police, took comprehensive measures to establish all the circumstances of the incident and the persons involved. The incident was classified as a terrorist attack. One of the versions is the possible involvement of the deceased in the manufacture of explosives that detonated due to careless handling. He could have been planning a terrorist attack ordered by the Russian special services.
