Authorities in Odesa are cracking down on the illegal "Granat" on Evropeyskaya Street

In Odesa, work has begun on dismantling the temporary structure at 1 Yevropeyskaya Street, where the “Granat” restaurant was previously located.

This was reported by the Odesa City Council.

According to city officials, the structure had been standing there illegally for several years. In connection with this, the Odesa Regional Prosecutor’s Office has opened a criminal investigation.

The dismantling is being carried out by the Department of Consumer Market Development and Consumer Protection. City officials noted that the work is being performed in accordance with established procedures.

The former “Granat” establishment had operated at this location for over ten years. In February 2024, its permanent closure was announced. After the start of the full-scale invasion, the establishment was closed for some time, but later resumed operations and remained open until nearly the end of 2023.

As far back as 2017, local residents complained about the café’s outdoor seating area and the installation of a permanent structure on the sidewalk. At that time, activists contacted the city’s hotline demanding that the illegal structure be removed.

Earlier, the saga surrounding anotherunauthorized structure—the “Bianco” hotel on the Odesa coast—took a new turn. Despite the Supreme Court’s final ruling ordering its demolition, the hotel continued to operate.

In September 2024, the Odesa Regional Commercial Court granted the prosecutor’s office’s claim on behalf of the Odesa City Council and ordered the private enterprise “Bastion-2015” to demolish, at its own expense, the non-residential building with an area of 295.6 square meters. The court concluded that the hotel had been built without authorization on a plot of land belonging to the local community.
