The Security Service of Ukraine detained an FSB agent in Odesa who was gathering information on the deployment of the Defense Forces in the south of the country and passing it on to the Russian intelligence service to prepare missile and drone strikes.

This was reported by the SBU.

According to the investigation, the detainee is a local resident who came to the FSB’s attention due to his posts on Telegram channels supporting the Kremlin regime and the Russian military.

Law enforcement officials determined that the man was tracking the locations of Ukrainian military bases, specifically air defense positions and logistics depots of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Odesa and the Odesa region.

To gather information, he drove around the area, then sent the collected data to his handler in Russia via a messaging app, after which he deleted the correspondence.

In addition, according to the SBU, the agent proposed to his Russian handler that he be supplied with firearms to destabilize the situation in the region. He also provided the Russian special services with information on a local council member and a servicemember of the National Guard of Ukraine, whom the Russians could have considered potential targets for elimination.

SBU officers detained the man and, during searches, seized three cell phones containing evidence of his collaboration with the Russian intelligence service.

The suspect was notified of charges of high treason, encroachment on Ukraine’s territorial integrity, calls to seize state power, and justifying Russia’s armed aggression.

The suspect is currently being held in custody without the right to bail. If found guilty, he faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

Recently, the Kyiv District Court of Odesa sentenced British citizen Ross David Catmore—a former military instructor—to 8.5 years in prison for working for the FSB.
