A resident of the Kherson region fought against the Ukrainian Armed Forces as a member of "Storm-Z" and will stand trial

An indictment has been filed against a Ukrainian citizen accused of treason. According to the investigation, at the age of 18, he voluntarily signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense and joined the Russian army.
According tothe Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the individual in question is a native of the Nizhnesirohozka community in the Kherson region. During the temporary occupation of the Henichesk district, he obtained a Russian passport, according to the criminal case file.
In May 2025, when the man was 18 years old, he was in Crimea and voluntarily signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense. He then joined the armed forces of the aggressor state.
According to the investigation, he has been participating in combat operations against the Ukrainian Defense Forces since August 2025. He serves in the Russian“Storm-Z” unit and carries out combat missions on behalf of the occupying forces.
Currently, the defendant is a fugitive, so the indictment has been forwarded to the court for the case to be heard in his absence. A trial in absentia is conducted when the defendant is evading investigation and trial. At the same time, this procedure provides for the participation of a defense attorney and the possibility of appealing the court’s decision.
The man is charged with high treason committed under martial law, pursuant to Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
If found guilty, he faces a sentence of 15 years in prison or life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Recently, the director of an agricultural firm owned by Kherson Mayor Kolykhaev was convicted of aiding the Russian Federation. The individual in question is Petro Lyashko, head of the “Yukos and K” farming enterprise , who is linked to the business interests of Kherson MayorIgor Kolykhaev.
