A quarter of a million people have left Ukraine in the past six months

In the first six months of 2026, 244,300 Ukrainians left Ukraine and did not return. The highest number of border crossings was recorded in June.
These figures were published by the OpenDataBot platform .
In total, over the first half of the year, the State Border Guard Service recorded more than 16.2 million border crossings. Ukrainians accounted for 86% of all crossings.
7.13 million citizens have left Ukraine since the beginning of the year, while 6.89 million have returned. Currently, there are 244,300 more departures than returns. This is almost the same as during the same period last year, when the difference between departures and returns was 251,000 people.
On average, Ukrainians crossed the state border 2.34 million times per month. The fewest crossings were recorded in February —1.7 million—and the most in June—3.17 million. This is 36% higher than the monthly average. In June specifically, 210,900 more citizens left Ukraine than returned.
According to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine,the border with the Republic of Poland traditionally remainsthe busiestroute.
Earlier,revenue from the tourist tax increased in the Odesa region . From Januarythrough June 2026, local budgets received 14.1% more in tourist tax revenue. The difference compared to the figure for the first half of last year amounts to 0.7 million hryvnias.
