The head of Odesa City Hall, Gennadiy Trukhanov, has extended the temporary ban on vehicle traffic on Vitaliy Blazhko (formerly Marinesko) descent.
The relevant order was published on the municipality's website.
"To extend the temporary ban on vehicle traffic on Vitaliy Blazhko (formerly Marinesko) descent, introduced by the mayor's order of November 21, 2024, until August 2, 2025," the document says.
The Department of Transport, Communications and Traffic Organization of the Odesa City Council is to change the city's public transport scheme for the period of the traffic ban.
Last October, the Capital Construction Department of the Odesa City Council held a tender for the construction of a new drainage system for the descent. The only bidder was Rostdorstroy LLC. The final beneficiaries of Rostdorstroy LLC are currently Yuriy Shumacher, a member of the Odesa City Council and representative of Gennadiy Trukhanov's Trust the Deeds party, and businessman Yevhen Konovalov.
Earlier, Petro Obukhov, a city council deputy and head of the committee on transport, traffic and communications, announced the municipality's intention to resume tram service on the North-South route in August, which was interrupted by a landslide on Vitaliy Blazhko descent. According to the deputy, the contractor is completing the track and is preparing to obtain a permit to resume traffic.
According to him, the modern trams that the city received from its Western partners were constantly experiencing problems - they were going off the rails. It turned out that the reason was not a defect in the trams, but the condition of the old tracks. So now, in the most problematic areas, the cars will move more slowly.
