A teenager from Mykolaiv region was awarded for heroically saving his brother during a fire. This is one of the first awards established to honor brave and caring children.
This was reported by the press service of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration.
On June 3, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, accompanied by First Lady Olena Zelenska, presented the first Future of Ukraine awards, a new state award that recognizes children for their courage, strength of spirit, active citizenship, and care for their neighbors. A total of 24 young Ukrainians were honored, including 16-year-old Dmytro Amalskyi from Mykolaiv Oblast.

The boy lives in the village of Ivanivka in the Bratsk community of Voznesensk district. In January 2025, he showed great bravery when a fire broke out in their home.
A short circuit in the power grid set fire to things in the room where the six-year-old boy was staying. His older brother, Dmytro, heard the screams, immediately rushed into the room, took the child out into the yard and saved him from the fire. After handing his brother over to his mother, the boy returned to the house and tried to extinguish the flames on his own. The victim was taken to a children's hospital with second-degree burns.
"You are our future. I am very proud that we have such children, children with such values, with such a sense of what is right. I would like to thank you for your courage and indifference," the Head of State emphasized.
The "Future of Ukraine" award was established recently - the President signed a decree on its creation on May 29, and the first award document appeared on May 30. This initiative is intended to support and inspire children who, despite their young age, demonstrate an example of true citizenship and humanity.
