In Mykolaiv, shelters in educational institutions were inspected and found to be unsuitable.

This was reported by the office of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights in Mykolaiv region.

Experts recorded problems with accessibility and safety conditions. They inspected kindergartens No. 22 and No. 29, gymnasiums No. 20 and No. 46, as well as lyceums No. 19 and No. 28. During the visits, they checked whether the shelters were safe, whether there was access for people with limited mobility and people with disabilities, and whether there was water, light, ventilation and sanitation. Based on the results of the inspections, official recommendations are prepared for local authorities and the management of the facilities. Their main task is to eliminate all violations.

Earlier, in Mykolaiv, they checked the condition of shelters in educational and social institutions and identified a number of shortcomings. The visits were conducted by specialists from the regional office of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights. The inspections covered protective structures at the Aleksandrov Lyceum, Kalynonka kindergarten, Molodizhny Palace of Culture, Zakhyst utility company and a department for people in difficult life circumstances. Experts assessed the technical condition of the shelters, their accessibility, and the provision of basic conditions such as water, ventilation, lighting and sanitary facilities. The results were disappointing: the shelters showed problems with accessibility, insufficient ventilation, lack of water supply and hygienic conditions.

Residents of Mykolaiv complained about the school bomb shelter being locked during the alert. Citizens called for access to shelters for all citizens at all times, especially in times of war. During the drill, a resident of Mykolaiv faced a dangerous situation. A mother and her child came under fire while going to school. According to her, they rushed to the bomb shelter. However, the doors of the shelter were closed. As the school employee explained, she did not know that there would be an alarm. Not only this family was there, but also other children who were engaged in various sports.
