Reni mayor overturned in his car

Reni Mayor Ihor Plekhov was involved in an accident between the settlements of Vvedenka and Svitlodolynske in Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi district of Odesa region.
This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa Oblast.
According to Dmytro Sliuta, Head of the Department for Investigation of Crimes in the Field of Transport of the Investigation Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa Oblast, it has been preliminarily established that the 53-year-old driver of a Lexus SUV drove off the roadway into a ditch and overturned the car.
As a result of the accident, a 72-year-old woman, the mayor's mother, who was in the passenger seat, died. Ihor Plekhov himself and his 5-year-old boy, who was also in the car, were taken by ambulance to a local hospital with numerous injuries. The man will be tested for intoxication.
The investigative team for the investigation of road accidents of the regional police investigation department, the investigative team and officers of the patrol police response sector of the territorial police department, and officers of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine are working at the scene.
The police are establishing all the circumstances of the accident. The issue of registering the incident in the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations is being resolved.
In May 2024, the Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court opened proceedings on a complaint filed by the defense lawyers of Ihor Plekhov, mayor of Reni, Odesa region. On Wednesday, April 17, the High Anti-Corruption Court announced a verdict against Ihor Plekhov, mayor of Reni, Odesa Oblast, and Ivan Poydolov, a member of the city council, for taking a $50,000 bribe. The panel of judges of the High Anti-Corruption Court found guilty the mayor of Reni, Izmail district, Odesa region, and a former member of the local council. They were found guilty of committing a criminal offense under Part 4 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
