Quality of inclusive routes checked in Odesa

Odesa is working to create a barrier-free urban space by analyzing routes, updating infrastructure, and engaging the public. Several projects have already been implemented, including an inclusive beach.
This was reported by the press service of the Odesa City Council.
Vice Mayor of Odesa Serhii Kotsiuba held a working meeting with the participation of the expert group of the Barrier-Free Council. The main goal is to create a comfortable and safe urban space for people with disabilities, veterans, and other people with limited mobility.
The infrastructure is currently being analyzed: pedestrian zones, tourist routes, service facilities, and urban navigation elements are being checked. According to Oleksiy Morozov, the mayor's advisor on barrier-free space, Odesa strives to be not only attractive but also accessible to everyone.
According to the press service, the development of the barrier-free route will take place in several stages and will include public consultations with the public, experts, and representatives of low-mobility groups.
At the end of July, the city held a final meeting of the Barrier-Free Council. It was attended by veterans, activists, ambassadors of the Movement Without Barriers project, and representatives of the city authorities. The achievements of the first half of 2025 include the launch of the first barrier-free route, improved access to beaches, and the development of adaptive kayaking.
Also in July, the patrol police, together with parking inspectors, checked how parking spaces for people with disabilities are used. In most cases, the drivers had the appropriate documents, and in case of violations, they pleaded guilty and agreed to pay a fine.
At the same time, they also found shortcomings: not all specialized parking spaces were properly marked on the ground, despite being in the documents.
At the beginning of the month, a new inclusive beach was opened in Odesa. It was equipped with ramps, modern showers and toilets tailored to the needs of people with disabilities, as well as a first aid station and a shelter. According to preliminary data, more than UAH 21 million was planned to be spent on the beach equipment.
