Odesa checks who parks in spaces for people with disabilities

Recently, a joint raid by the patrol police and parking inspectors took place in Odesa to check whether drivers were legally occupying specially designated parking spaces for people with disabilities.
A journalist from Intent was also observing the raid.
As it turned out, most drivers using these spaces had the appropriate documents. In cases of violations, the drivers pleaded guilty and agreed to pay fines without conflict.
However, the inspection also revealed problems with the infrastructure: not all parking spaces designated as spaces for people with disabilities in the documentation are properly marked on site. In some locations, there are no road signs or markings on the asphalt. Because of this, drivers might not have known they were breaking the rules.
So the raid showed both positive changes in the drivers' minds and shortcomings on the part of the responsible services in ensuring that special parking spaces are properly marked.
The problem of parking has been a concern for many Odessans for years, and the Odesa Executive Committee has also increased the cost of an hour of parking by 10 hryvnias. Therefore, starting January 1, 2025, the new parking rate will be UAH 30 per hour. Odesa also determined that parking spaces for light personal electric vehicles (electric scooters, monowheels, etc.) are parking areas.
