Mykolaiv runs out of funds to complete lyceum

Mykolaiv lacks the funds to roof the unfinished building of Lyceum No. 60 in Varvarovka before winter. The city authorities are waiting for a decision from the Ministry of Finance and are negotiating with the regional administration for funding.
First Deputy Mayor Vitaliy Lukov said this in a comment to MikVista.
According to him, Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych has already sent a letter to the Ministry of Finance requesting additional funds for roof repairs, but there has been no response yet.
"Because now, unfortunately, we do not have enough money to finish even our own year," Lukov explained.
He added that the regional military administration has also asked the city council to finance the work, but the amount is too much for the city to pay at the end of the year. The authorities are currently looking for opportunities and holding talks with the OMA.
When asked whether the city council expects the state to provide funding for the roof, Lukov answered in the affirmative. According to him, the state started this project, so it is logical that it should complete it. At the same time, the official emphasized that the city understands the need and is considering financial options, as there are other requests for additional funding from the regional administration.
The unfinished building of Lyceum No. 60 needs to be roofed before the cold weather starts. The OVA emphasizes that since the institution is on the balance sheet of the city, Mykolaiv should contribute to the funding.
Last year, the contracting company BC Interbud began rebuilding the destroyed building of Mykolaiv Lyceum No. 60 in Varvarovka. In 2024, 76.6 million hryvnias were allocated for this work from the fund for liquidation of the consequences of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation. The total cost of the project is 111.3 million, and the regional military administration hoped that the government would continue funding next year.
Lyceum #60 is one of the most affected educational institutions in Mykolaiv: During the shelling in April and July 2022, its first and second buildings had to be dismantled. The new building was supposed to be a symbol of the city's reconstruction.
However, as the NGOs Anti-Corruption Headquarters and the Steve Jobs Center for Information Technology Assistance found out, there are dubious risks around the project: political connections of the general designer, a non-transparent contractor, and inflated prices for materials.
