Mykolaiv Region Inspects 311K Food Products, Detects ASF Outbreak

In 2024, specialists from state veterinary and sanitary laboratories operating in the agri-food markets of the Mykolaiv region conducted a thorough quality control of the products put on sale. In total, more than 311 thousand units of products were inspected, and more than 580 thousand laboratory tests were conducted.

This was reported by the Main Directorate of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection in Mykolaiv region.

The inspections revealed serious violations: 846 cases of diseases, including invasive diseases in cattle and pigs, as well as diseases of sheep and goats. Most of the problems were found in pig farming, where 573 cases of non-communicable diseases were recorded.

As a result of the examination, a significant amount of products was not allowed for sale. A total of 1,918 tons of food products of animal origin were utilized, including beef (298 kg), pork (1.6 tons) and lamb (20 kg). In addition, another 3,720 tons of products did not reach customers due to non-compliance. These include milk with excessive acidity and vegetables and fruits with a high nitrate content.

Earlier, Intent wrote that on January 11, 2025, hunters of the Arbuzynshchyna Hunters LLC found the corpse of a wild pig in a forest located 3 km from the village of Lyuboivanivka, Blahodatnenska community, Pervomaisky district. A laboratory test conducted on January 13 by the Mykolaiv Regional State Laboratory of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection confirmed the diagnosis of African swine fever (ASF).

In addition, 35 dead piglets aged 1-2 months were found on the roadside of the Kropyvnytske-Platonove road, 1.3 km from the village of Mykolaivske in Mykolaiv region. The laboratory of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection diagnosed the animals with African swine fever (ASF).
