Mykolaiv authorities have planned to buy out a tram substation, an architectural monument of local significance. It is a historic building that is part of the city's heritage and a symbol of the development of electric transport in the city in the early 20th century.
According to the decision of the city council, the purchase of the facility is aimed at preserving the architectural heritage and its further use for the social and cultural needs of the community.
The next step is to take the necessary steps to transfer the building to the city's ownership. The relevant structural units of the city council must complete all procedures in accordance with the current legislation and the procedure for acquiring real estate into municipal ownership approved by the executive committee.
Control over the implementation of this decision is entrusted to the city council's standing committee on housing and communal services, communal property, landscaping, transportation and energy saving.
The architectural object, which witnessed the development of electric transport in the city, is planned to be restored. This will preserve a historical monument that is part of Mykolaiv's cultural heritage. The possibility of arranging a new public or cultural space in the building is also being considered.
In early February, Mykolaiv put up for sale a historic building - the first tram substation, which is a landmark of the city. The facility is located in the city center and is mentioned in many tourist guides as a symbol of the city.
After a media outcry, Mykolaiv City Council announced that the city does not have the financial means to buy the property. The head of the culture department, Yuriy Lyubarov, explained that in times of war, the use of budget funds to purchase real estateis inappropriate both from a financial and moral point of view. He emphasized that even if funds are available, the priority is to meet the critical needs of the city, not to buy new facilities.
