Mykolaiv has launched an experience exchange program between water utilities in Ukraine and the United States to modernize and improve the efficiency of water supply.
This was reported by the press service of the Mykolaiv City Council.
The city has launched an international experience exchange program between water utilities in Ukraine and the United States called the Exchange for Ukraine Program. The initiative is aimed at restoring, modernizing and improving the efficiency of water supply in Ukraine.
According to the founder of the Mykolaiv Water Hub, Anna Montavon, 10 Ukrainian water supply companies are participating in the program, including Mykolaiv, Lviv, Khmelnytskyi, Lutsk, Chernihiv, Sumy, Chernivtsi, Kremenchuk, Vinnytsia, and Zhytomyr.
On the American side, leading water utilities from Las Vegas, Milwaukee, Arkansas, Washington, Denver, and Orange County have joined the initiative. These companies have many years of experience in critical infrastructure development, water resource management, and the application of the latest technologies in water supply.
The goal of the program is to share knowledge on new water treatment technologies, corporate governance and efficient resource management.
Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych emphasized that through cooperation with the Mykolaiv Water Hub, the city is not only recovering but also developing, actively sharing experience and implementing international standards in water supply. The program is being implemented with the support of Mykolaiv Water Hub, Leading Utilities and the US Water Partnership.
Last year, a German NGO announced the construction of the Mykolaiv Water Hub innovation center in the city, which will become a center for research and implementation of advanced technologies in water supply, energy, and agri-food.
The launch of centralized drinking water supply in Mykolaiv is scheduled for August 2025, reducing the cost of construction from UAH 8 billion to UAH 5 billion. At the same time, the project itself has been improved, including the addition of a new water intake station and converters.
Danish experts from the organization Engineers Without Borders are also ready to help with the selection of technical solutions for the development of renewable energy, including the installation of solar panels at water utilities and heating companies to improve energy efficiency.
