In Mykolaiv region, the number of job seekers far exceeds the number of available vacancies, which creates high competition among the unemployed. At the same time, the region is facing a serious shortage of healthcare workers, which could further exacerbate the problem of access to healthcare.
As stated in theRegional Development Strategy until 2027, the unemployment rate increased after 2022, but the number of jobs is gradually increasing. Before the full-scale invasion, the unemployment rate in the region was 11.3%.
According to the Mykolaiv Regional Employment Center, as of November 1, 2024, 715 unemployed people were registered, which is 11% more than in 2023. At the same time, 4849 people were employed during the year, and another 7279 people were involved in temporary employment, of which 6960 were employed under the "Army of Recovery" project.
In addition to unemployment problems, the region suffers from an acute shortage of medical personnel. As of October 1, 2024, the region lacks almost 1,300 doctors, which is 32% of the total need.
More than 850 doctors (35%) are already over 60 years old, which may further exacerbate the situation in the coming years. The greatest shortage of personnel is observed in rural areas, which directly affects the availability of medical care.
There is a particularly acute shortage of family doctors - the region needs 135 general practitioners.
Recently, Mykolaivpastrans has hired female drivers. The first female bus driver has already been officially employed and is undergoing an internship at the company.
Earlier, Intent wrote that the war in Ukraine and the related mobilization led to a significant shortage of bus drivers in Mykolaiv. Currently, there is a shortage of about a hundred workers.
The war in Ukraine has exacerbated the labor shortage, so the government decided to expand opportunities for women. The program provides free training in more than 30 specialties at the request of employers. Among the professions available for training are tram driver, machine operator, milling machine operator, renewable energy system installer, and more.
