In Mykolaiv, work is underway to equip shelters in schools and kindergartens so that as many children as possible can return to full-time education.

According to Hanna Lychko, head of the city council's education department, the city remains at the second level of security risk, but the educational process is gradually resuming due to the creation of protective shelters in schools and kindergartens.

According to Hanna Lychko, 64 educational institutions in Mykolaiv have safe shelters as of today:

- 26 kindergartens already have shelters and operate in a full-time format.

- 36 schools are also equipped with shelters and are accepting children for education.

- 1 out-of-school educational institution received a shelter - this is the first such case in the city.

- 1 other type of institution is also equipped with a protective structure.

Another 5 kindergartens and 3 schools have shelters fully prepared, but are not yet in use due to the waiting for water purification systems to be installed.

Repair work on shelters is underway in 9 kindergartens and 9 schools. As soon as they are completed, these institutions will switch to a full-time education format.

In addition to standard protective facilities, the Capital Construction Department is working on the construction of radiation shelters in two kindergartens and two schools.

Another important component of safe education is access to drinking water. Without it, the educational process cannot begin.

- The city has 68 reverse osmosis systems connected to the centralized water supply.

- Another 36 systems provide water from wells.

These systems are maintained by Pilot as part of the city's Drinking Water program.

The construction of shelters in Mykolaiv is funded not only by the city budget, but also by international partners. Among the organizations helping the city are:

- The Kingdom of Denmark

- Red Cross

- SavED

- International Organization for Migration (IOM)

- UA Brokers Without Borders

- UNICEF
