Petro Obukhov, a deputy of the Odesa City Council, believes that there will most likely not be any inclusive toilets in Odesa out of five million.
He expressed this opinion in a live interview with Intent.Insight.
The deputy argued that the project to install these toilets was lobbied by Deputy Mayor of Odesa Hanna Pozdnyakova, who has now written a letter of resignation.
"They won't be there this year or at all, because it was Hanna Pozdnyakova's project, and she resigned. To be honest, I don't understand why MPs are defending this topic so much. It is, well, absolutely morally losing. Well, what is an inclusive toilet? A toilet where a person in a wheelchair can enter. Well, I see these green toilets, even in Victory Park, on the health track, each of them has a large stall for such needs. That's why I don't have a problem with it," the deputy said.
The deputy mayor of Odesa, Anna Pozdnyakova , decided to resign from her post. On October 31, the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv imposed a pre-trial restraint on Hanna Pozdnyakova, Deputy Mayor of Odesa for Executive Bodies, in the form of nightly house arrest until December 28, 2025.
On the eve of the same day, on November 19, during a session of the city council, another discussion arose around the installation of these toilets in the city. Currently, the purchase and installation of one restroom is planned. Deputy Volodymyr Kornienko stated that the inclusive restroom on Soborna Square in Odesa, which is planned to be installed despite the existing one, is too expensive. During the discussion, it turned out that it costs more than 6 million hryvnias. Volodymyr Kornienko insisted on removing this issue from consideration. He was supported by MP Oleh Zvyagin.
They say they won't have time before the end of the year. He was assured that they would make it. Deputies Roman Sennyk and Oleksandr Ivanitsky spoke in defense of the restroom. Deputies Petro Obukhov and Olha Kvasnytska noted that the estimate for the restroom was too high. Obukhov added that there are already inclusive restrooms in the city. There are also on Soborna Square.
On August 27, the Odesa City Council almost failed the "Barrier-Free Odesa" program because of a scandal over the cost of inclusive toilets, which cost 5.7 million hryvnias each. After a second vote, the decision was passed, but it was decided to allocate funds for only one. Over four years, it was proposed to equip 19 such toilets in the city, but a number of deputies opposed it because of the significant overestimation of the price compared to the market price.
