Residents of Izmail, Odesa Oblast, and the surrounding towns and villages were left without power supply in the morning of November 20.
According to the press service of DTEK Odesa Power Grid, the accident occurred at 5:30 am due to an overload of equipment.
"Power engineers are already working to fix the malfunction and put the equipment back into operation as soon as possible," the company said.
DTEK also reminded that in late October and throughout November, the enemy repeatedly attacked DTEK Odesa Grids' energy facilities in Izmail district of the region. As a result, five substations suffered significant damage, including one that came under enemy fire twice, so it will take time to restore the equipment to a working condition.
In his turn, Izmail Mayor Andriy Abramchenko said that water supply facilities are being switched to backup power for the duration of the emergency, which will take half an hour or more and may result in a decrease in pressure in the network or a temporary interruption of water supply. All critical infrastructure in the city is powered by generators, which leads to significant fuel costs.
The south of Odesa region is indeed currently suffering from a difficult situation with energy supply, as the repair of the power substation in Reni, Izmail district, Odesa region, which was damaged by the Russian attack, has been delayed for more than a week.
A Russian air attack in Odesa region on the night of November 11 resulted in a person being injured and a Ukrzaliznytsia depot being damaged. The cities of Izmail and Reni were under attack. The latter is where the damaged depot is located. The city also lost power due to a fire at a substation. Local residents were told that the repairs would take up to two days. According to DTEK, 16,000 families were left without electricity.
