Dust Storm Hits Mykolaiv Region: Yellow Warning Issued Until March 18

A dust storm is approaching Mykolaiv region, which will last until the end of the day on March 18, 2025.
This was reported by the Mykolaiv Regional Center for Hydrometeorology.
"A dust storm is expected in the next 1-2 hours on March 18, 2025, in the Mykolaiv region. It will remain until the end of the day," the statement said.

According to weather forecasters, this weather phenomenon corresponds to the first (yellow) level of threat.
Local residents are advised to minimize their time outdoors, especially those with chronic respiratory conditions, and to be careful when moving around.
According to meteorologists, the weather will be calmer on March 19. Partly cloudy weather is expected, without significant precipitation. Northwest wind, 5-10 m/s. The temperature in the region will range from 0 to -5°C at night, and will warm up to 3-8°C during the day. In Mykolaiv, the night temperature will be in the range of -1...-3°C, and during the day the air will warm up to 5-7°C.
Dust storms have become more frequent in Ukraine recently. Intent has already written about how experts from the Ministry of Health conducted intensive air quality monitoring in Mykolaiv and the region due to the dust from the African desert that covered Ukraine.
Scientists have warned that dust storms are becoming more frequent in Europe, and it will get worse. According to the UN, the frequency and intensity of sand and dust storms are increasing in many parts of the world. Desert and steppe areas are particularly affected by these phenomena. For example, in the American Great Plains, the number of such storms has doubled over the past 20 years. In Iraq in 2022, ten sandstorms were recorded in two months.
However, dust storms are already spreading to other areas, such as southern Europe. The UN Coalition on Sand and Dust Storms noted that these phenomena have a serious impact on the environment, climate, health, agriculture, livelihoods, and socio-economic well-being of the population.
