Driver who killed daughter of former mayor of Kilia imprisoned for three years

The driver who ran over the daughter of the former mayor of Kiliya, Odesa Oblast, Pavlo Boychenko, to death was sentenced to three years in prison, the minimum sentence for such a crime.
This was reported by Pavlo Boychenko.
According to him, the driver fully admitted his guilt and, according to him, sincerely repented of his actions, and he and his family asked the court not to impose a custodial sentence on the accused.
"Is it possible to forgive actions that took the life of your child? Our family has decided to take a stand in the court hearing against the driver whose negligence led to the tragedy, as we believe Kateryna herself would have done. In the name of our Kateryna, her kind, loving, forgiving heart, we asked the court not to impose a custodial sentence on the defendant. We believe that true repentance and a change of heart can bring more light than the severity of the sentence, and we hope that the accused is capable of this," explained Pavlo Boychenko.
The daughter of the former mayor of Kiliya, Pavlo Boychenko, Kateryna, died in an accident in Izmail, Odesa region, on September 5. She was hit by a 19-year-old BMW driver while crossing the road at an unregulated pedestrian crossing. The driver was not injured. A sobriety test showed that he was sober.
He was tried for violation of the rules of road safety or operation of transport by a person driving a vehicle, which caused the death of the victim.
