Due to the summer heat, a thermal regime has been introduced on the roads of Odesa Oblast. From now on, trucks weighing more than 24 tons are prohibited from driving if the air temperature rises above 28 degrees, but there are exceptions.

This was reported by the press service of the Patrol Police in Odesa region.

From now on, when the air temperature exceeds +28 °C, the movement of trucks with an actual weight of more than 24 tons and an axle load of more than 7 tons is prohibited.

Why is this necessary?

As the temperature rises, the asphalt concrete pavement becomes more viscous and can deform under the weight of heavy trucks, causing ruts, cracks and even potholes. To avoid large-scale destruction, road builders decided to restrict the movement of heavy trucks during the hottest hours of the day.

Here's how it works:

The threshold is +28 °C. As soon as the thermometer reads above +28 °C, restrictions are automatically applied to trucks weighing 24 tons or more.

Drivers can stop on the roadside, at temporary parking lots, or near gas stations and service areas that have sufficient space and equipment for oversized vehicles.

On the main routes, there are weather stations and wagon-size complexes that automatically transmit information to Ukravtodor dispatchers.

The traffic restrictions do not apply to vehicles that are

  • are used during the liquidation of natural disasters or emergencies;
  • transport perishable goods;
  • are unsanitary;
  • live cargoes;
  • high-risk cargoes;
  • military cargo, dual-use goods and/or property used for defense purposes, etc.
