4 people were injured in an accident on the Odesa-Mykolaiv highway

On the morning of June 7, a traffic accident occurred on the Odesa-Mykolaiv highway near the village of Malovarvarivka, Mykolaiv district, in which four people were injured.
According to the Mykolaiv regional police, a Nissan and a Chevrolet collided on the highway.
"A 42-year-old Chevrolet driver, a 15-year-old teenager, and a 33-year-old passenger were injured in the accident. A 26-year-old Nissan driver was also injured. They were taken to medical institutions with injuries of varying severity," the agency said.
Investigators opened criminal proceedings over the incident, preliminarily for violation of the rules of road safety or operation of transport by persons driving vehicles. The perpetrator of the accident faces up to three years in prison with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for up to three years.
Police are currently establishing all the circumstances and causes of the accident.
Last year, Odesa region became one of the three regions with the highest number of accidents committed by drunk drivers - 7,073 reports, second only to Dnipro (8,745) and Kyiv (8,176). At the same time, the Prosecutor General's Office opened more than a thousand criminal proceedings for such offenses, which is 11% more than in 2023.
Over the year, there were more than 1,000 road accidents caused by drunk drivers, 110 of which resulted in deaths and 1,302 people were injured. Every 25th accident with victims was caused by intoxicated drivers.
This is not the first time that Odesa region has been among the leaders in the number of road accidents. In October, the region ranked third among the regions of Ukraine with the highest number of road accidents in 2024. Over eight months, 1148 road accidents occurred in the region. In March 2024, the region was ranked fifth with the highest number of road accidents - 181.
