Odessa Honored the Memory of Musa Mamut and Showed Support for Persecuted Human Rights Activists in Crimea

The fifth “Sessiz qıçıruvı: Silent Scream. Musa Mamut” took place in Odesa, dedicated to the Crimean Tatar activist Musa Mamut, who on June 23, 1978, doused himself with gasoline and set himself on fire in protest against the discriminatory policies of the Soviet authorities. The event also served as a reminder of the Crimeans who are in critical condition in Russian torture chambers.
“Today we will talk about Crimeans who are in critical condition in Russian torture chambers. They are Iryna Danilovych, Tofik Abdulgaziev, and the Seytumerov brothers—Rustem and Memet. We demand the immediate release of these people, because for them, every day could be their last,” said Aziza Eskender, the founder of the campaign, before the event began.
The Crimean Tatar artist explained that the rally was linked to the rally in support of Mikhail Fedorov. In her view, there is a logical connection between the events—both rallies were organized with the future in mind.
One of the participants, holding a sign that read “Free the captives, not Fedorov,” expressed the view that “instead of working to free our people, whom we desperately need here, the authorities are working to free people who are doing everything they can to secure the release of our captives.”
Earlier, Refat Chubarov, Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, debunked misinformation in reports by propaganda outlets regarding the alleged recent arrest of a female spy by the FSB. He concluded that the arrest had taken place earlier and that the detainee had been held in complete isolation from the outside world the entire time.Refat Chubarov noted that the practice of incommunicado detention (complete isolation) has become very widespread in occupied Crimea.
