The Danish government has planned 45 million euros for treatment facilities for Mykolaiv

The Danish government is ready to allocate EUR 45 million in grant aid for the modernization of new wastewater treatment facilities. They should provide Mykolaiv with high-quality centralized water supply.
This was announced by Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych during a session of the city council.
Currently, new treatment facilities are being built for the city at the expense of the state budget. At the same time, the city authorities insist on their further modernization, including the installation of modern membrane filters. According to the mayor, this will make it possible to purify water to drinking levels even from the Ingulets River, which is considered an alternative source of water supply in case the water supply system is damaged again due to shelling.
The total cost of the modernization is estimated at around EUR 80 million. Of this amount, Denmark is ready to provide EUR 45 million in the form of non-repayable assistance, and the rest is proposed to be financed by the European Investment Bank in the form of a loan. At the same time, the mayor clarified that the final amount may change after the development of design and estimate documentation.
Senkevych noted that earlier preliminary calculations by the European Investment Bank estimated the project at about 120 million euros, but after clarifying the indicators, the cost decreased to about 80 million.
At the same time, the mayor emphasized that the city budget is unable to service loan obligations. According to him, due to the war, the community's financial resources are limited, and there are no real mechanisms to significantly increase budget revenues.
According to the mayor, the state should finance the loan part of the project. He believes that these costs should be covered by the state budget, and later compensated by reparations or funds from frozen Russian assets in Europe. According to the mayor, the city authorities do not have the necessary powers and resources to resolve financial issues on their own.
At the same time, Mykolaiv continues to work on a large-scale project to modernize the water supply system in the Korabelnyi district. It is being implemented with the support of the Danish government. According to Sienkevych, the "Unrevenue Water" project involves the reconstruction of almost 39 kilometers of water supply networks in Mykolaiv. As part of the work, it is planned to replace worn-out sections of pipes, install new wells, chambers, and fire hydrants.
