Mykolaiv completes construction of water pipeline with protection against shaheeds

The construction of the water supply system for Mykolaiv is nearing completion, with the system expected to be launched in August. The project will provide the city with stable drinking water and an additional resource for irrigating fields, while reducing future tariffs for the population.
This was reported by the press service of the State Agency for the Restoration and Development of Infrastructure of Ukraine.
The construction of the main water supply system for Mykolaiv has reached the home stretch. The system is scheduled to be launched in August, and the first commissioning works will begin in July.

Head of the Recovery Agency Serhiy Sukhomlyn, First Deputy Head Mykola Boyko and Deputy Minister Kostyantyn Kovalchuk inspected the progress of work at the pumping stations and water intake site. According to Sukhomlyn, the water pipeline is an example of a comprehensive approach to restoration that combines quality, engineering and efficient use of funds.
"During the design, we immediately took into account the scenarios of the cost of water pumping in the future to keep the tariff for Mykolaiv residents in check," the official said.
Thanks to the project, Mykolaiv will receive a long-awaited source of drinking water, and farmers will receive an additional 50 thousand cubic meters of water per day for irrigation.

Almost all the pipelines have been laid at the facilities, and the installation of pumping stations and shelters for workers is nearing completion. At the same time, the construction of protection against drone strikes is underway.
According to the press service, the system is equipped with frequency converters, fiber optic communication, backup generators and independent power lines. Thanks to the optimization of solutions, it was possible not only to improve the technical characteristics but also to reduce the total cost of the project by two billion hryvnias.

The state decided to attract donor funds for the implementation in August 2023, after the occupiers destroyed the Dnipro-Mykolaiv water pipeline and blew up the Kakhovka HPP. It was then decided to reorient the water supply to the Ingulets River.
In April 2022, Russian shelling damaged Mykolaiv's water intake and treatment system. The main water pipeline passing through the occupied territory of Kherson region was destroyed, and the city lost a stable source of water.
