The Kingdom of Denmark has funded the repair of a kindergarten in Mykolaiv that was damaged during shelling in May 2025. The windows were smashed and the roof was damaged.
This was reported by the Danish Refugee Council.
Thanks to the help of parents and staff, the area was quickly cleaned up, and the children were able to return to classes. However, the building needed urgent repairs. With the support of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Danish Refugee Council, some of the windows and doors are being replaced and the roof is being repaired. Today, about 100 children attend the kindergarten every day.
''They responded very quickly - on the third day after the shelling,'' said Iryna, the kindergarten's director. ''I hope that the children will soon be able to study again in a safe, warm and friendly environment.
Recently, in Mykolaiv, deficiencies in the shelters of educational institutions were discovered. Experts checked the accessibility and safety of kindergartens #22 and #29, gymnasiums #20 and #46, and lyceums #19 and #28. They assessed the condition of the shelters, the availability of facilities for people with limited mobility, water, light, ventilation and sanitation. Based on the results, they are preparing recommendations for local authorities and the management of the institutions to eliminate all violations.
Earlier, shelters in educational and social institutions were inspected in Mykolaiv. Specialists of the regional office of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights inspected the Oleksandrov Lyceum, Kalynonka kindergarten, Molodizhnyi Palace of Culture, Zakhyst Municipal Enterprise and a department for people in difficult life circumstances. Experts assessed the technical condition of the shelters, their accessibility and basic conditions. The results showed problems: the shelters are not sufficiently accessible and poorly ventilated.
