Denmark has allocated more than EUR 26 million to Mykolaiv region to restore energy, transportation, water supply and humanitarian demining. This assistance is aimed at improving critical infrastructure and enhancing security in the region.
This was reported by the press service of the Danish Embassy in Ukraine.
Mykolaiv will receive a new package of financial assistance from Denmark in the amount of 200 million Danish kroner, which is more than 26 million euros. The decision was made on February 28 during the sixth meeting of the Steering Committee of the partnership between Mykolaiv and Denmark.
The funds will be used to strengthen the energy infrastructure, including the purchase of solar panels, upgrading the water supply in Domanivka, improving public transport, and humanitarian demining of agricultural land.
Special attention is being paid to restoring social infrastructure to help bring normal life back to the affected region as soon as possible.
In Mykolaiv, a large-scale reconstruction of the shelling-affected neighborhoods continues, including the restoration of the Liski neighborhood with the support of Denmark. The project involves the restoration of 12 buildings, repair of intra-neighborhood roads and pedestrian areas, and replacement of windows and balconies in apartments.
In addition, thanks to the Danish government, the city can receive additional funding to purchase nine more autonomous trolleybuses. A grant of €3.9 million has already been received for the purchase of trolleybuses, six of which are already on the routes and the remaining three are expected.
In December last year, Mykolaiv communities presented new prospects for cooperation with Denmark, identifying three key areas: economic potential development, creation of a council of entrepreneurs, and cooperation in waste and water management.
Last year, Denmark provided the region with 151 million euros, of which 75.5 million has already been spent on project implementation. In 2024, Mykolaiv will receive international support worth UAH 3.6 billion, including humanitarian and technical assistance, which will help improve infrastructure and the stable functioning of urban systems in difficult conditions.
Last July, the city's international partners working on the City Master Plan selected pilot projects. These initiatives will develop important components that will influence the development of the region, and the plan itself will become the basis for the city's recovery and determine its development for many years to come.
