The largest investment project in the port sector since independence has been launched in Odesa region. It is planned to attract more than a billion US dollars in investment.
This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine.
A public-private partnership has been launched in Chornomorsk to modernize the port's key terminals and resume container transportation.
Oleksiy Kuleba, Vice Prime Minister for Reconstruction of Ukraine and Minister of Communities and Territories Development, signed an order to create a tender commission with the participation of Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.

According to him, this is a transparent international procedure in which the world's leading companies will compete. The next steps are to prepare documentation together with IFC, EBRD and international consultants, hold a tender and select an investor.
For the Chornomorsk community, this project means stability and new opportunities. For the whole country, it means the development of container transportation and strengthening Ukraine's position on the global logistics map," emphasized Oleksiy Kuleba.
"The project covers the First and Container Terminals of the port of Chornomorsk with six deep-water berths and all infrastructure. They remain in state ownership, and the investor will contribute capital, modernize and manage them under a long-term contract.
Project scale:
- Hundreds of millions of dollars in investments in the restoration of berths and equipment;
- more than $1.1 billion in revenues to budgets of various levels over 40 years;
- creation of more than a thousand jobs with guarantees for employees;
- restoration of container transportation to 250 thousand TEU annually in three years with the prospect of reaching pre-war levels of more than half a million.
More than 40 international port operators and investors have already expressed interest in the project, which will ensure competition and favorable conditions for the state.
Ukraine, together with its European partners, also plans to integrate transport routes into the pan-European network, in particular the Alexandroupolis-Odesa route. The Ukrainian side paid special attention to the development of the Danube region's infrastructure and its full inclusion in the TEN-T network. This will increase the capacity of the Danube ports, provide reliable alternatives to sea and land routes, and connect the transport systems of Ukraine and Moldova with the European one.
