Members of the“Trust the Deeds” party abstained from voting at a session of the Odesa Regional Council due to a decision to recall some of their representatives. The reason cited was that the participation of individuals without official authority in the session renders the adopted decisions legally vulnerable and creates the risk of them being challenged in court.
This was stated by Alexander Akhmerov, the leader of the “Trust the Deeds” political party.
Due to the small number of members in this faction (four), their refusal to vote did not affect the session’s proceedings.
On August 15, the “Trust the Deeds” political party officially announced its decision to recall four members of the Odessa City Council via a citizens’ initiative. The deputies in question areOleg Bryndak, Marina Lozovenko, Alexander Matveev, and Vasyl Ieremiya.
The decision was adopted following conferences of the Odesa city and regional branches of the political party, as well as a meeting of the party’s council. At the same time,a rulingby the Odesa District Administrative Court had previously been made public, prohibiting the “Trust the Deeds” political party, as well as the Odesa City and Regional Territorial Election Commissions, from considering, vote on, or make decisions regarding the recall of members of the Odesa City and Regional Councils based on a citizens’ initiative.
Earlier,Igor Koval , the acting mayor of Odesa, accused “Trust the Deeds” of blocking the work ofthe Odesa City Council. The deputies refused to participate in the session until DeputyVasyl Ieremiya refused to vote and left the chamber.
