Radu Miruce, Romania's acting defense minister, stated that five maritime drones were detected and neutralized in the Black Sea off the Romanian coast.

This was reported by the Romanian news outlet Digi24.

According to the minister, debris from the drones was found at sea and subsequently destroyed. Some of the drones contained explosives, while others did not.

Four of the incidents occurred before the drone explosion in the port of Constanța, and one occurred after it.

Miruță also commented on the drone explosion in the port of Constanța and explained why the Romanian Army did not issue a separate report on the incident.

“The Romanian Army does not provide security for the Port of Constanța in peacetime. The Romanian Army is one of Romania’s state agencies that intervenes in peacetime, in situations such as these, when it is called upon for support. There are Romanian state agencies that, according to the law, are responsible for this during peacetime,” he noted.

On June 5, a Ukrainian surface drone exploded in the Romanian port of Constanța after it had washed up on the pier. There were no casualties or injuries.

The Ukrainian Navy confirmed that the drone was indeed Ukrainian but had lost control due to Russian electronic warfare measures and ended up off the Romanian coast.

Media outlets also reported that four more boats carrying explosives were discovered in the coastal area of the port of Constanța.

Subsequently, Romania approached Ukraine with a proposal to change the operating procedures for maritime drones. Bucharest is also negotiating to strengthen its own air defense system following this incident.

On June 29, a Russian drone that had flown in from the Odesa region during a massive attack by Russian occupiers on the region was shot down in Romania.
