Odesa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov said he was ready to undergo any test, including a polygraph, to prove that he does not have Russian citizenship.

The mayor of Odesa said this on October 14 on the air of the Suspilne. Studio project.

"I'll tell you, after I looked at it, there was a petition to introduce a military administration, and now there is another petition to deprive me of citizenship. On the other hand, a petition was filed to consider not introducing MVA, and it was rejected," the mayor said.

If he is deprived of his citizenship, the mayor said he would go to court.

A petition to deprive Odesa Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov of Ukrainian citizenship was signed by more than 25,000 Ukrainians in less than a day. The author of the petition, Miroslav Otkovych, cites repeated media reports that the mayor has Russian citizenship. Myroslav Otkovych is the soldier of the 122nd Brigade, whom the mayor asked why he was not in the trench in response to a comment about the Pushkin monument in front of the city council building on Birzhova Street.

On the evening of October 12, Gennadiy Trukhanov published a statement that he was going to be deprived of Ukrainian citizenship on the grounds of allegedly having Russian citizenship.

He reminded that this topic has been systematically raised since 2014. At that time, he repeatedly denied holding Russian citizenship, and all checks by the Ukrainian authorities did not establish this fact.

It should be noted that the petition for the introduction of a city military administration in Odesa also collected the required 25,000 signatures in a week and is now awaiting the president's response.
