On November 30, the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP was on the verge of a blackout due to Russian army shelling, which damaged one of the power lines.
According to the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, the plant is currently powered by only one power line.
"For the third time in November, one of the power lines connecting the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP to the Ukrainian power grid was disconnected due to enemy shelling," said Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko.
Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) is a nuclear power plant in Ukraine, in the steppe zone near the former shore of the Kakhovka Reservoir in Zaporizhzhia region, near the city of Enerhodar. It is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe and the third largest in the world by total capacity. It consists of six nuclear power units of 1 GW each. On March 4, 2022, during the full-scale Russian invasion, the power plant was seized by Russian troops.
According to the Ministry of Energy, if the plant is disconnected from external power, Zaporizhzhia NPP will experience another complete blackout, which poses a threat to radiation safety. Ukrainian power engineers will start restoring the line as soon as the security situation allows.
"Only the return of control over the occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP to Ukraine can guarantee the safe operation of Europe's largest nuclear power plant. Every day of occupation brings ZNPP closer to disaster," the Energy Minister emphasized.
On November 16, Russian troops damaged a high-voltage line that supplies power to the occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant(ZNPP). As reported by NPC Ukrenergo, the plant is currently operating exclusively on the backup line, and in case of damage, there may be a threat of a complete blackout, which poses a critical threat to radiation safety. The company noted that power engineers have already found the accident site and are carrying out repairs, despite the high risk to life.
Earlier, Intent wrote that the Russian military attacked energysystem facilities throughout the country with missiles . Emergency power outages were introduced. As the Minister of Energy of Ukraine HermanGalushchenkosaid at the time, the enemy is hitting power generation and transmission facilities throughout Ukraine with missiles.
According to energy officials, the massive strike resulted in emergency blackouts in Kyiv, Dnipropetrovs'k and Donetsk regions. Also, since 06:53, emergency power outages have been introduced in Cherkasy region. In addition, there is currently no electricity supply in some parts of Odesa. Emergency blackouts have been introduced in Kyiv region by order of NPC Ukrenergo.
