The National Council of Ukraine on Television and Radio Broadcasting has decided to register the Odesa-based publication Intent as an online media entity.

In fact, this is a re-registration of the publication in this capacity, as Intent got its name in 2022, changing its previous name Izbirkom.

The publication Izbirkom, now called Intent, was created by the Odesa regional organization Committee of Voters of Ukraine in 2009. In 2023, the public organization "4U" was established in Odesa, with Anatolii Boiko, the head of the Odesa CVU, as its chairman.

Intent is also registered as a printed publication and publishes a newspaper that is distributed free of charge in the Odesa region.

The registration of the publication by the National Council is an important step in the development of the country's media space and has a significant impact on the activities of online publications.

What does this decision mean for the media?

The registration of online media in Ukraine is regulated by the Law of Ukraine "On Media" and relevant regulations. According to the law, online media entities can register on a voluntary basis. Registration provides a number of benefits and imposes certain obligations on media organizations.

  • Access to information: Registered media can receive accreditation for official events and count on facilitation of access to public information.

Responsibilities of registered online media:

  • Official name of the media outlet.
  • Postal address, phone number and e-mail.
  • Identifier in the Register of Media Entities.
  • Compliance with standards: Media outlets must adhere to professional journalism standards and ethical norms.
  • Responsibility for content: Registered media outlets are responsible for disseminating truthful and verified information.
