Mykolaiv lawmakers clashed with officials over fuel

Members of the Mykolaiv Regional Council’s Standing Committee on Social Policy, Health Care, Motherhood, Childhood, Protection of the Rights of ATO/OOS Participants and Veterans and Their Families, and Gender Equality of the Mykolaiv Regional Council were unable to reach an agreement on the redistribution of 5 metric tons of fuel.

As Iryna Tkachenko, head of the Health Department, reported during the committee meeting on August 31, this concerns diesel fuel that had been allocated to power generators during blackouts.

However, she noted that some medical facilities have now been equipped with solar panels, which has made it possible to save these five metric tons of fuel. Consequently, the Department of Social Protection requested that these remaining supplies be transferred to it to support geriatric and social neurological care facilities. The Department of Health did not object to this, but Tetyana Labartkava, the administrative manager of the regional council’s executive office, objected to the commission’s consideration of this issue.

According to her, the administration has two proposals, and both cannot be considered due to comments from the executive committee. The fact is that, as she explained, some facilities received less fuel than planned due to a lack of storage capacity. Deputy Andriy Zakusilov statedthat the regional council lacks an understanding of the fuel needs for the upcoming season, while Yuriy Granaturov, deputy head of the Mykolaiv Regional Administration, stated outright that there is no question of any savings, since these surpluses are reserve fuel.

Consequently, consideration of the issue was postponed, even though it had been placed on the session’s agenda.
