In the Voznesensk District, the condition of the R-55 road is so poor that ambulances cannot always reach patients, and school buses risk breaking down while transporting children. Because of this, the Mykolaiv Regional Council proposed using funds from local budgets to repair the road, but the deputies did not support the proposal.
This information came to light during an extraordinary session of the Mykolaiv Regional Council.
Deputy Tetyana Demchenko reported that deputies had previously appealed to state agencies regarding funding for the repairs. According to her, responses from the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Agency for the Restoration and Development of Ukraine’s Infrastructure indicated a lack of funds for the current year, while the issue of funding for next year is still under consideration.
The council member also stated that the budgets of the communities in the Voznesensk District had exceeded their targets by 42 million hryvnias, and she called on regional and district authorities, as well as community leaders, to help resolve the issue.
However, another deputy, Oleksandr Mosin, cautioned that the regional council cannot pressure local self-government bodies or compel them to allocate funds for specific needs. In his view, communities should independently determine the priorities for using their budgets.
Demchenko’s proposal was put to a vote as a deputy’s inquiry regarding funding for the R-55 road from local budgets. It was supported by 21 deputies, with 12 abstaining, so the resolution was not adopted.
Consequently, the issue of funding the road repairs remains unresolved. According to the deputy, the road’s condition is causing problems with ambulance access and the transportation of schoolchildren.
