In Odesa region, law enforcement officers exposed the director of a private construction company suspected of embezzling budget funds during the repair of a school shelter. The suspect has already been notified of suspicion and may face a real prison term.
This was reported by the press service of the National Police in Odesa region.
According to the police, officials of one of the village councils of the Bolhrad district signed contracts with the head of a construction company for the production of design estimates, as well as for major repairs and arrangement of a simple shelter in a general secondary education institution.
During the performance of the work, the director of the company, according to the investigation, deliberately overstated the cost of construction materials in the estimates and certificates of completion in order to misappropriate part of the funds allocated from the state budget.
As a result of such actions, the village council suffered losses in the amount of almost UAH 230 thousand, which the contractor illegally received.
Based on the evidence collected, investigators served the head of the company a notice of suspicion of misappropriation of property by abuse of office committed under martial law, as well as of knowingly entering false information into official documents.
Under these articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, he faces up to eight years in prison with a ban on holding certain positions or engaging in certain activities for up to three years. The case is currently under pre-trial investigation.
Also in January, the director of a private enterprise in Odesa region was investigated for misappropriating budget funds during the renovation of a school. The Berezovsk District Prosecutor's Office notified the businessman of suspicion of forgery and embezzlement of public funds.
