Members of the Mykolaiv City Council approved a company that will handle household waste sorting in the community. The company must build the necessary infrastructure at its own expense and allocate a portion of its revenue toward the maintenance of the city’s landfill.
The decision was adopted during a city council session, as announced on November 6. “LNK Resling” LLC, which had previously won an open tender, was selected to carry out the sorting operations.
According to Ihor Nabatov, first deputy director of the Department of Municipal Services, after the contract is signed, the company will have 13 months to build the sorting line. The company must cover all costs associated with constructing the facility on its own. In addition, the company has committed to allocating 10% of its revenue toward the maintenance of the city’s municipal solid waste landfill.
Currently, most of the waste in Mykolaiv is landfilled. The official described this approach as harmful to the environment, as it increases the burden on the landfill and shortens its useful life.

According to preliminary estimates by city authorities, launching the sorting line will reduce the volume of waste sent to landfills and decrease the burden on the landfill by up to 35%. The city council expects this will help extend the landfill’s operational life.
Nabatov emphasized that the project’s implementation should provide the city with a new infrastructure facility and change the approach to household waste management.
In late October in Mykolaiv, a council committee did not support a proposal to bring before the session the issue of designating LNK Recycling LLC as the company responsible for sorting household waste. The deputies questioned the company’s financial viability and asked for an explanation of how it had been evaluated during the bidding process.
