Mykolaiv proposes to raise salaries of city council officials

In Mykolaiv, a possible increase in salaries for officials was discussed. The discussion focused not only on the size of the increase, but also on how it would affect the quality of their work.
The proposal was discussed at a session of the Mykolaiv City Council.
On Thursday, October 30, the city council discussed a possible increase in the salaries of officials and the approximate level of the increase. The issue was raised by Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych during his report on changes in the structure of the city council's executive bodies. The mayor of Mykolaiv noted that low salaries make it difficult to retain employees and attract new specialists, as many leave to work in government agencies with twice the salary.
Head of the Anti-Corruption Department Andriy Yermolaiev suggested that changes in the city council structure should start with raising salaries to reduce errors in documents and attract more attentive employees. The mayor supported this idea, but emphasized that the increase would be possible after the reform of executive bodies and is planned for the new year.
Deputy Fedir Panchenko asked about the specific amount of the raise, and Yermolaiev said that it should be no less than that of cashiers at ATB supermarkets (approximately UAH 24,000). MP Olena Kyselova emphasized that it is incorrect to compare officials with supermarket workers, noting that officials have vacation time, comfortable working conditions, and the possibility of business trips abroad at the expense of the budget.
The deputies' opinions were divided: some supported the increase, while others reminded of the low salaries in social sectors, such as kindergarten teachers. As a result, the mayor proposed to move the discussion to the meetings of the deputy commissions and continue consideration of the agenda.
At the same time, salaries for city council officials were raised in Odesa. The acting mayor, city council secretary Ihor Koval and his deputies were granted bonuses, premiums and annual financial assistance: the official will receive a 50% salary increase, a monthly bonus of 150% of the salary and an annual allowance for health and social needs in the amount of the average monthly salary.
